Through the wonderfulness that is
simonesa and
lovekeller, I had an amazing Saturday and Sunday.
Before I forget, I do want to post a few more photos from our tour around DC. We had terrific weather for it.

This is Kris, Teresa and me by the Lone Sailor at the Navy Memorial. People leave flowers there from time to time. I wonder about the stories behind them.

This is Kris and Teresa looking out over the Tidal Basin with the Martin Luther King, Jr. statue in the background.

The view from the Lincoln Memorial looking east. The Reflecting Pool was drained for repairs. At the bottom of the photo you can see some of the columns and fountains for the World War II memorial. It's intentionally set down a little so it doesn't interfere with the sweep of the view. Washington Monument is front and center, the Smithsonian Castle is to the right and the Capitol and Library of Congress are towards the back.

I find the Korean Was memorial very touching. The statues are supposed to be soldiers on patrol, coming out of the trees. On misty mornings or in winter it can be quite eerie. The faces are so lifelike and they are draped in raingear. They look so weary.

To one side is a wall where there are various faces. They used an interesting technique that make it look like they are coming out of the stone. Also very lifelike.
