I'm sorry this is delayed, but I did have a wonderful time at Comic-Con and wanted to share it with you.

The flight to San Diego was very pleasant but quite crowded. We had a three hour layover in Dallas, so I explored the airport. they have a nifty SkyTrain that takes you around to the various gates so I rode that a few times just for the heck of it. The airport is much larger since the last time I was there.

Once I was checked in, I wandered along the harbor a bit. there was a glorious sailing ship, the "Star of India," the USS Midway, and lots of boats. There was a lot of street art, some of it comemorating various battles and some rather whimsical. There was a little seaport village/mall with cute little shops. I ran into a family of ducks taking the air.

I do have to remark on how thoroughly SD was branded for the event. All the pedicabs had posters on the back, Avatar had bought up all the lamp banners. Even my hotel keys were Comic-Con related.

After I picked up my pass, i went into the Exhibithall. it was huge and packed! I got some nice nerdy pictures of myself, some comic books and buttons, and other souvenirs, and goggled at the booths for movies, TV shows, and toys. There was an absolute traffic jam around the Twilight booth. On the morning news, they showed how people camped out for that panel overnight. Not for me.

A couple hours on the floor left me needing some space. I went over to Cafe Diem. It was actually the Hard Rock Cafe, but they ttricked it out with cutouts, and branding everywhere. Even the bartenders had Cafe Diem aprons. All the TV screens showed Syfy shows. No wonder their booth on the floor was rather small.

I met a group of very cleancut nice men. They broke down and admitted they were security for the Twilight stars who were staying in the hotel. They talked about the insanity of escorting the groups around.

Time for panels!
This movie will be 3-D but the clips for now were 2-d. It's an animated movie based on real science. A photon voiced by Chris Pine tours the solar system. Present for the panel were Harry Kloor, Robert Picardo (very funny) Janine Govanka (sp?), Doug Johns, and two other members of the productions staff. Chris Pine wasn't there but he called in on the phone. Lots of famous voices for the movie too, including Neil Armstrong. The movie looks awesome - the clips were really impressive even without 3-D

The Women of Wonder panel featured Eliza Dushku, Sigourney Weaver, Zoe Saldana and Elizabeth Mitchell.

When asked about how Lost will resume, Elizabeth Mitchell said the best result would be if jack's plan works so her character can say it's not her fault.

I knew Sigourney Weaver would be direct. She said to approach a character as a character, not whether it's male or female. Ripley was originally supposed to be a man. "Ripley started as a man but Sigourney came and she was better" Zoe

Zoe was kickass and smart, Eliza seemed to be a little confused and/or cold. It might have been the strapless dress she kept trying to pull up. She gave all props to Joss Whedon, saying she trusts him to write good characters. Elizabeth (TS sighting - she was Wnedy Hawthorn!) was very entertaining.

Sigourney and Zoe seemed to get along quite well.

Burn Notice was next and great. I do think Danny and Paul would get along quite well with Matt Nix. For one thing, it's all real explosions - no CGI. Nix talked about blowing out all the windows in the block for the big explosion ending one season. Panel members included SethPeterson, Mike's brother, Jay Karnes, the excellent bad guy, Alfredo Barrios, Matt Nix, Bruce Campbell! and ben Shenkman. The panel started and ended with some videos from Jeffrey Donovan on how to delay the start of a Comic-Con panel and how to get good swag. Michael Shanks was the surprise moderator of the show. He got lots of cheers and did a good job. Bruce Campbell was terrifically funny. There was a running gag where he gave money to people who asked flattering questions. Funniest bit was when he explained why the show was at Comic-Con:

Why is a spy show being paraded in front of all the freaks and geeks? Why? Science fiction, fantasy and horror. Horror: My character's name is Sam Axe. Science fiction: If you've ever been to Miami you'll know there's lots of aliens there. Fantasy: My character Sam Axe sleeps with a string of rich Miami women and that's a fantasy to me. He also joked about wanting to boff Xena and Pikachu.

They talked about how hard it is to write the voiceovers. They use the Internet to come up with their MacGyver tricks. All in all, great fun

There's also a good story about Burn Notice here http://www.cinemaspy.com/article.php?id=2828

The Psych panel was really funny, as might be expected. Corbin Bernson, Tim Osmendson, Maggie Leeson, James Roday, Dule Hill, Steve Franks, and another guy I'll have to fill in. James was sharper edged than I expected and Dule hill was more laidback. He tapdanced for us. Exec prodicer Steve franks os very tall. there was a funny intro video with a very short writer named Andrew. There was a lot of staff in the audience.

They talked about the way they come up with 80s references, the songs, and psych-outs. I didn't realize James had written for the show. They did a very funny bit about Magic Head!

They had the best swag - an magic 8-ball, t-shirt and comic book.

I watched some videos of Firefly, had a hamburger for dinner, and went to bed utterly wiped out. More coming about Friday!
