Fandom is my happy place
Aug. 12th, 2010 10:09 pmI've always loved the generous spirit shown in my fandoms. From the support shown to Moonridge to the support we show each other, it's inspiring. That's why the latest two developments have me so unsettled.
The whole toft froggy thing was unnerving. SGA is one of my fandoms (and definitely one of the crackier ones) and I always loved the stories that popped up in sgastoryfinders. People take time and trouble to find stories for others. I hate the way she mocked that process (I've read her apology).
And once again the whole DUG debacle has resurfaced. Sentinalia has blown up over it again. I get warning people about investing in the project, but there comes a time to let it go. It's still splintering friendships. MJ is trying to damp it down and I hope she succeeds. I've been ripped off worse by other fannish people and let it go.
But every time fans cheat each other, we lose part of the fannish essence. And it makes me sad.
