Aug. 21st, 2007 03:12 pmI've been doing some paperwork and stuff to get ready for the new job. Start date is next Monday, so I've been taking some time to catch up with other things that need doing and treating myself to a few outings....
Yesterday, I went to a reading/discussion with Donna Andrews, who writes very funny mysteries and also some tech mysteries. My favorite of her books is We'll Always Have Parrots, not least because it has one of the funniest discussions on slash I've ever seen in a book. I picked up her latest The Penguin Who Knew Too Much . There was some very interesting back and forth about crossovers in the mystery field and the difficulties bookstores can face in characterizing them and shelving them where potential buyers might see them. Charlaine Harris could reasonably be filed in any of four categories and Jasper fForde - who knows where. Randall Garett's books on Magic and Mystery could go in either Scifi or mystery. William Gibson gets shelved all over the place. The conversation was fun, and then I had ginger scones and tea at Teaism while I read.
