Happy birthday, Earth
Oct. 23rd, 2005 11:14 amArchbishop James Ussher, Primate of All Ireland, determined in 1658 that the Earth was created on Sunday, October 23, 4004 BC. So, Happy Birthday Earth!
Anthropology-related story. I learned this little factoid in one of my first anthropology classes in college. Later on that semester, it happened that class fell on the 23rd. A friend and I brought in a cake, decorated it with a little globe, and left it on the front table. I don't know what pleased the professor more, the cake or the fact that we remembered something from earlier in the semester. Our classmates sure liked the snack! He was a good teacher. Not as handsome as Blair, but a good teacher. A few years ago, I Sentinelized the story and posted it somewhere. I'll have to dig through my hard drive and see if I can find it.
