We had an all-hands meeting yesterday afternoon - all 400 of us in a biiiig conference room. Partly it was a lovefest of thankyous to various departments and department heads for the advances in the District's technology setup over the last seven years. The second half was a discussion of how we are going to be reorganized over the next six months. Lots of talk about how it would be a collaborative process of managed change, etc.

The funniest part? It was a standard auditorium setup, chairs facing the front of the room. The room was about half-full when the guy who will be in charge of the change process told us to pivot our chairs so that they faced the center aisle, rather than the front of the room. Ten minutes later the head of the group came in, and told us to pivot our chairs to face the front of the room. There's a metaphor in there somewhere. Guess we know who will really be in charge of the process.

And how much of a geek am I? During the lovefest portion of the program, they asked various trivia questions about the software and hardware used for our assorted setups. Correct answers got prizes. The last trivia question asked was not techie - they asked who were the six wives of Henry the Eighth. Guess who won two movie passes? Though it was a bit intimidating reciting in front of so many people, if I've got to have a recognizable face for them, an identity as trivia queen will do just fine.
