I'm feeling somewhat ambivalent about Amazon's acquisition of Goodreads. It was a really easy way to keep track of my books. OTOH, I'm not too crazy about the potential for future commercialization. Anyhow, before I left for LA, these were the final books. And I took an almanac and Schott's Miscellaney on the trip.
The Kickstarter Guide: Real Life Crowdfunding Success Stories by Don Steinberg. It's really more of a how-to book. Is Kickstarter right for your project, how to do it, and what happens after. It has lots of good advice on how to run a social media campaign, raising money, and other topics of interest. I liked the list of resources at the end. It's written in a very clear, easy to understand style.
Little Tiny Teeth by Aaron Elkins. Set in Peru. It had a slow start but still ultimately enjoyable.
Good Blood by Aaron Elkins. Another good one in the series.
Team of rivals : the political genius of Abraham Lincoln by Doris Kearns Goodwin. This book has been deservedly praised to the skies by every reviewer. It's worth reading but be prepared to devote some serious time to it. It deserves thinking time as well as reading time. Mticulously researched and well written.
The New York Times presents Smarter by Sunday : 52 weekends of essential knowledge for the curious mind. This was great 52 essays on essential topics if you want a good background.
The great American pop culture quiz book from Entertainment Weekly, Inc. Trivia!
The Terra Cotta Dog by Andrea Camilleri translated by Stephen Sarterelli
The translater must be awesome. It reads very well in colloquial English. I don't care much for the main character but I still liked the book
