Lecture at the Library of Congress
Oct. 2nd, 2012 03:58 pmI went to an interesting lecture at the Library of Congress. John Hessler used lattice theory and information entropy to demonstrate converging and diverging texts. Information accuracy can vary depending on how it is copied. He was analyzing Roman law texts but the technique should work for other disciplines. He pointed out the resemblance of his algorithms to the Google algorithms.
The Library of Congress Jefferson Building is a beautiful structure inside and out. On the way out of the lecture, I stopped in the Great Hall. Beautifully ornate, with Zodiac signs inlaid on the floor.

The Neptune fountain out front made me laugh with the maidens being showered with jets from ... turtles?
