But first - I'm tracking down songs to put together a mix tape from last night's closing ceremonies. Those folks were on crack but I did like the review of British pop. Seriously, George Michael? And Eric Idle was brilliant!

I spent a large part of the week reading the advanced sections for some software programs and puzzling them out. My fun reading has a distinctly Italian flavor this time around.

About Face and Blood from a Stone by Donna Leon. The titles for these two have several relationships to the stories they told. In About Face, the main character has had facial surgery and there are assorted betrayals. Inthe second, the title refers to conflict diamonds but also to people who are living on the margins. Both very good.

Under the Tuscan Sun by Frances Mayes. I always mixed these books up with Peter Mayles' books about Provence.SHe writes about restoring a villa in Tuscany, but her descriptions of the countrysde and the food are quite lyrical. I enjoyed it.
