Rabbit, rabbit!
Mar. 1st, 2012 05:36 pmHappy March 1!
I had an interesting if somewhat random day yesterday. I walked a lot and my knees were killing me by the end. Two things to share:
My friend Charlie was actually born on February 29. He's a bit coy about his actual age. He told me two years ago he was turning 98 so that would have made him 25 (100) yesterday. I stopped by to visit and drop off cupcakes and a card. He said he was 24 (96). Whatever - he's entitled at this point. He was pleased people here remembered the day. His daughter lives in New York and his grandsons are pretty scattered.
This is Charlie 2 1/2 years ago:

I was walking back to Metro around twilight and went past an office building where I used to work. The building is wildly historic - John Wilkes Booth ran down the adjacent alleyway (which backs onto Ford's Theatre) after assassinating Lincoln. It had one of the last two openwork iron elevators in DC. It was boarded up for several years. Living Social, one of those Groupon companies, bought it and did a fantastic job renovating it. They kindly gave me a quick tour. They respected the integrity of the building and history - kept the elevator and the brickwork, but the inside is high-quality tech now. They run all sorts of classes and art events there now. My office was on the fifth floor.
