Days of Christmas, DC Style
Dec. 4th, 2011 04:16 pmThe National Christmas Tree that had been there since 1978 blew down in a storm last February. The new tree still has some growing to do. The kids still thoroughly enjoy the whole display.

They've set up some elaborate trains sets around it.

They still have the small trees decorated for the 50 states and territories. The ornaments have clear plastic globes to protect them from the elements. A few states, including Maryland, decorated the globes. :)

Maryland ornaments are supposed to represent terrapins, crabs, and other MD animals.

I don't know when they stopped calling it the Pageant of Peace. They do have a Santa's Workshop, but they haven't brought the reindeer down from the National Zoo for a couple of decades. A menorah will be put up later this month and also a symbol of Islam.
