Books that I've been reading
Mar. 30th, 2009 12:23 pmThe Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz. It won the Pulitzer Prize. It's set in New York and the Domincan Republic at the time of the Trujillo dictatorship. Lots of science fiction and Tolkien references. It's one of those books where the best parts take place in the footnotes. Not bad.
The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga. It won the Man Booker prize. A little harder to get into, but once it got going I found it very funny, though darkly so. A nice presentation of India today, warts and all.
And for dessert, I finally read The Devil Wears Prada. I never did see the movie and now I think I don't want to. The fashion industry is not presented in a good light. Give me Tim Gunn any day.
