Men in tuxes and women in gowns smartly walk the red carpet at the Washington Convention Center, to the "woo-hoo!" of adoring fans. A cameraman records the procession, photographers angle for close-ups. One carpet-walker, a woman in blue sequins, strikes a come-hither pose, and a security guard taps a female spectator on the shoulder.

"Are they famous?" he asks.

"No," she replies. "They're librarians."

Librarians, with the notable exception of Laura Bush, aren't often in the spotlight and publicly appreciated -- which is exactly why Ann Seidl decided they deserved a movie.

I'm spamming you. I'm doing laundry. While I'm doing it, I'm poking my flist in hopes of seeing more Moonridge reports. [livejournal.com profile] starwatcher307 has posted the first photos ::smooches Linda:: and I've seen a couple of interim reports. It looks like it was as wonderful as always. ::sigh::

But in the meantime, I'm spamming you. You will now be favored with my comments on the new Top Chef. Don't worry, no spoilers. While I am no where near as good a cook as those folks, I thought I'd do a simple cook's version of the challenges or at least contemplate what my offerings would be. This episode, the Quickfire asked for citrus recipes. I'd make a nice orange salad with blood oranges and regular oranges and possibly grapefruit. My dressing would be ginger and honey, a very finely minced serrano or jalapena for heat (it is set in Miami), and mint for garnish and to cool off the heat.

The second challenge was barbeque. No way two hours would be enough for a good meat barbeque. I'd put shrimp on skewers, oil them up and put them on the grill at the last minute. My BIL showed me how to roast corn on the grill with hickory chips. I'd roast the corn and make a nice salad with corn and diced red peppers. I'd use the corn husks for a cute presentation.

But what are traditional Miami/Cuban spices and flavorings? What should I use in the next challenge?
