are the topics of the day.

My Doctor Who marathon day wasn't totally wasted, as I cooked while I watched. I made banana cake and baked beans, both from scratch using the recipes in the Moosewood Cookbook. They turned out pretty well.

I finished Laurie King's The Art of Detection. I thought it was quite good, though I guessed the killer pretty rapidly once he appeared on the pages. It's part of her Kate Martinelli police prcedural series, though she did bring in bits of her Sherlock Holmes research. She has good characters and really does thorough research, so I generally enjoy her stuff.

It reminded me of a place in San Francisco where I really liked to bring visitors. I used to be in the Holiday Inn right by Union Square. I wonder if it's still there. They made a complete recreation of Sherlock Holmes' sitting room, down to the bullet marks in the mantel, the gasogene and violin and the slipper full of tobacco. People would spend an hour looking at it all. The bar was handy for drinks before or after.

Now I'm starting Bleeding Hearts by Susan Wittig Albert. She wrote the herbal book of days I dip in and out of, and I generally enjoy her stuff.
