Alexandrite

With the jewel-meme that's been going around, I decided to google the stone in one of my favorite rings. It's alexandrite - it changes color according to the light it's in. Sometimes it's green, sometimes it's purple, and sometimes it's a brilliant red. I got it in Mexico City in 1978.

I actually bought it because an alexandrite ring was an important clue in a mystery story I loved at the time - The Casebook of Susan Dare (author now forgotten). My ringstone was likely mined in Brazil. According to its mystical properties, alexandrite can assist one in centering the self, reinforcing self-esteem, and augmenting one's ability to experience joy.

Just a little factoid to brighten your day (snicker)
