I haven't been doing much reading for fun lately. I've been spending time with the mosaic software (I knew there was a reason I had so many photos!). And I also have been doing more reading for work.
Kirinyaga by Mike Resnick. One of the Welcome Home books. Very interesting. Each chapter is a stand-alone but together they show how a Utopia can't remain one. One man has a vision and initially persuades others to follow it but in less than a generation, it changes. Civilizations either grow or become stagnant. The concept that knowledge can be restricted is debunked. I liked the technique of using fables to instruct both the readers and the characters. It has its flaws but is worth reading.
Content Marketing by Rick Ramos. Content marketing is the big buzzword in web content right now. Website content should always be oriented to sales but not as a sales pitch. By engaging people you create influence and a favorable atmosphere for your product. There was a lot about social media, analytics and testing. It should be helpful in what I do.
Big Data Now from O'Reilly Radar. It's a collection of essays on data sciences and tools as they relate to the amount of data we leave about ourselves on the Internet. It's a bit dated but as it is it's a chilling read. We leave a lot of information out there and we don't control it. Various essays cover the tools, the potential products and the people selling it. The math whooshed right by me in a few essays but overall a necessary read.
