Bulwer-Lytton awards

The latest round of the Bulwer-Lytton awards is up on the web. It's the one where people compete to see who can write the worst opening sentence. We had a Sentinel version of this not that long ago.

This entry made me think of the sometimes overwrought way we describe Jim and Blair's eyes:

"Words cannot describe the exquisite loveliness of the brilliant azure sky with its cerulean striations of periwinkle, cornflower, and cyan."

This one just made me laugh: "Twas brillig, and the toves were not just slithy, they were stinking drunk."
